Salt Petal – Telephone – Single Review

Review by Tom Coombs

Founding members Autumn Harrison and Rodrigo Gonzalez and the rest of LA based surf rock band Salt Petal have released single ‘Telephone’ off their forthcoming album ‘Rare Hearts’.

The punchy dance laden pop rock music is definitely a sound to get your body moving to, from the fast paced riff filled start you can’t stop yourself.  There is just something about the funky percussion and riffs which flows through your mind perfectly.

The music of Salt Patel is based on South American 60’s and 70’s styles and you can tell with the R&B (old style not new rap styled) and disco feel to it.  The whole song has a magnificent retro groove to it; it even has me using the word Groove, which would be a first.  The full band of Rodrigo on lead guitar, Fabio on rhythm guitar, Autumn on keys and vocals, the vocals are great for this style and blend so nicely with the music, finally there is Evan on bass, and Hiroo on drums, they have really made a great track.

As a guitarist myself I do lean towards guitar playing hugely and Rodrigo has certainly got some nice riffs within ‘Telephone’ and am looking at what is to follow in the album.

‘Telephone’ is out now, so hunt it out and take a listen below, you won’t be disappointed.

3 Stars – Nonstop made to dance to funky soulful rock, enough said
