Joel Gion – Tomorrow – Single Review

Review by Tom Coombs

New single by super side burned singer/songwriter Joel Gion is out now and what an great indie track.

Ahead of a new album release in spring San Francisco based artist Joel Gion, joined by Colin Hegna on bass and backing vocals, Paul Dillon on guitars and Brain Gardener on drums, has created a great song about, well, tomorrow.

Joel is mainly known for being park of The Brian Jonestown Massacre indie rock band but has his solo career and from the distorted laid back sound from single ‘Tomorrow’ it is solo career to be followed.  And now with his second album on the way it is time to get involved.

The song itself is a full on grungy rock track, distortion, funky toe tapping rifts and key changes and has that classic styling taken from the rock n roll days with the more modern rock elements.  The only problem with the song is it is very short and should be at least longer than three minutes, but with a funked up hook near the end you have to let it off.

Obviously production is on top form and would expect nothing less from Collin Hegna at Revolver Studios in Portland.
